“Just works” on MacBook Pro,
It “just works” on my Macbook Pro (10.6.4). Brought up the keyboard detect dialog, which I exited, and it scans perfectly. Tested in TextEdit, then started using to scan books & CDs to sell! I don’t see any reason to spend any more money than this great scanner!
It can take a bit of aiming to get a barcode. I usually hold the trigger and move it up and down a little until I get the beep. Even with that, it only takes a couple seconds to scan something.

|Very useful and handy for practically anybody,
I bought several of these for an inventory management system I designed. These are versatile in how they interact with the computer. I used the USB configuration which “just worked”. They can emulate a keyboard so that the value of a scanned barcode is actually ‘typed’ from the viewpoint of your computer. A vast selection of 1-dimensional barcodes are supported. When you have a method for generating barcodes, the possibilities are endless.
It is compatible with Linux/BSD computers too. The scanner is programmable and it will also type it’s configuration out. This configuration can be used to quickly program the scanner. If my memory is correct, you can even convert this configuration into a barcode and scan it in, while in programming mode. The scanner does not need any drivers or even a computer to be programmed. The manual, also available as a PDF on several websites, contains barcodes that turn on or off settings in your configuration
With this scanner, I have used it to:
* Enter my password to log in with a barcode.
* Type barcodes into fields in webpages
* use barcodes with TAB and ENTER encoded in them to jump to next fields
* If your barcode image isn’t aliased or dithered, you can even scan barcodes displayed on LCD monitors or E-ink displays
