It changed me for ever. I was a 22 year old account executive in an advertising agency. I had to brief this senior, elderly copywriter with what the client wanted. Doing the finals of the Advertising exams I knew all the technical terms. "Target market" was a new phrase, "opportunities to see" was another. Commercial television was very new. She was senior to me and a bit scary so she had the lot, all the big words, all in one paragraph. Wallop.

The thought of hiding behind big words was new to me and it hurt, because it was true.

Later I made a specific study of writing and speaking in simple language and I've used it ever since. The lack of precision is possibly part of the reason why much of my stuff is not too acceptable to academia but then academics are not in my target market.

We all see masses of incomprehensible junk. Computers must be the worst. At this moment, I am going in to the first three sites at random assuming I'm looking for a bit of software, something about palmtop machines and a scanner. What follows is from the only three sites I opened. It is bog standard junk.

You need to use a lot of highlighting, and bullet points, because people scan the page rather than reading it thoroughly. But sometimes you need paragraphs of text.

These are from the notes I made many long years ago. Send them around your technical people, your sales people, your customer service people, your finance people. Use these rules for writing your web site.

1. Keep your sentences short. Get rid of conjunctions, turn a long sentence into two.
2. Use alternatives for long, multi-syllable words.
3. Use personal names, personal pronouns
4. Add the following phrase after every technical term, "This means that......"
5. Break up long paragraphs, add headings.

The shortest sentence in this pricing tip is two words. The longest word in this pricing tip is incomprehensible. So I failed.

The easiest way to use my scanners directly from browsers- Dynamic Web TWAIN review

I've been using Dynamic Web TWAIN as my main method for scanning documents for more than 1 year now. It's so easy to use that I have already forgotten how complicated it was to finish my scanning job before Dynamic Web TWAIN. These are the problems I faced at that time:

1.How can I use the same application for all of my scanners?

I myself used to have several different scanners (HP Scanjet 5590, Canon LiDE 110, SamSung SCX-4521F, etc). Although they all use TWAIN, they have different interfaces. I even need to install some software just to use one of the scanners (such as SmarThru for the SamSung Scanner). Getting used to all the different interfaces was really tiresome for me and for my customers. So I really wanted to find one uniform interface which would allow me to use all of my scanners and I came across Dynamic Web TWAIN. And what a pleasant surprise!! The Dynamic Web TWAIN ActiveX can be used to make a customized scanning interface as a Web Page!! After researching a little into the online help document, I succeeded in making my first Dynamic Web TWAIN app with the 30-day free trial. You might NEVER know how easy it can be:

Yes, you're right, that's all the code I needed to use ALL of my scanners attached on my computer to scan!!! And by writing code like "objScan.Resolution = 100;", I easily succeeded in changing the resolution for scanning!! Below is how my first app looked like:

2. What if the scanning is not perfect?

Scanning is not an easy task. Very often I found myself scanning documents upside-down or askew. What then? Scan again? What if I scanned unnecessary margins of the page?

Again Dynamic Web TWAIN came to my rescue: I could edit the images in the viewer directly!!!

By simply adding a button I could turn my upside-down page back to normal:

3. How can I archive my scanned pages?

I still remember the old days when my customers would scan documents on their side and send the images to me via email. I would download the images, check the images and put them in different folders accordingly! I wasted a lot of my good work time doing this and I hated doing this!!! Communication via web is a good way, and again Dynamic Web TWAIN has saved me a good deal of time with its built-in upload methods. Here is how easy it gets to upload all the scanned images as a multi-page PDF to my server:

4. IE isn't that great, many of my customers don't use IE for browsing. What then?

I have customers who don't like IE at all. I myself is a big fan of Firefox and does most of my surfing on Firefox. So naturally I found myself wanting to scan in my Firefox. And Dynamic Web TWAIN surprised me again for their Wide browser-support. Besides IE and Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari, Opera are also supported. Now I don't need to worry what browser my users use because my application can handle all!!!

5. What if I need more functionalities and I don't like programming?

Dynamic Web TWAIN has more than 100 methods, more than 110 properties and 16 events. It's so powerful that I could always find the functionality I needed. But sometimes I only had the idea of what I wanted to do but didn't want to use too much time finding the right methods. That's when I experienced the fast, patient and thoughtful technical support from the Dynamsoft team. I got what I wanted fast and easily whether through email, livehelp or phone call. The team always seemed to know what I needed and they would send me working samples which could be used directly in my app!!

How I can solve this pavilion laptop?

I recently reinstalled windows on the HP Pavilion DV5000. Windows version not the version that comes with the team result, I have a lot of equipment with no drivers. granted that I could open this baby look for each device and their numbers Product and download one by one, but not worth the effort. It is an analysis software without my computer and show me what drivers to install? It seems that HP should do it for free, but I can not really understand. Thanks

Where I can download a manual for a HP Deskjet F4140?

I have one year of HP Deskjet F4140 All-in-one that works very well (knock on wood). But since I unplugged my laptop from Dell a few months ago, and then reconnect later, will not send a scanned photo to the laptop. The message I get says: "There was an error sending images from the scanner" and stop there. I've installed and reinstalled the software disc repeatedly without success. I thought a manual to help me and the support website of HP is sending me in circles. Thanks for all the help they offer.

When scanning images with the scanner, the photos have a yellowish tint to them. This a ScanJet3200C HP. or is photo editor software that allows me to delete a portion of the yellow?

Also I have the 3200C ScanJet, and mine does the same. It is because of the age of the reader. Mine is 7 years. The scanning mechanism has aged and can not be repaired.
