I was a long time HP printer advocate, but they've gone downhill -- their software is truly horrible and the hardware remains expensive.

I've now switched our family and business over to Brother printers and they're fantastic (we own 4 different ones). The 7065 has excellent print quality, duplex printing (a must have feature for me) and very nice scanning (fast too). The only thing I would like to see them improve would be to add support for scanning 2-sided originals. I had to write my own script to combine 2 separate scans, reversing pages and interleaving them to get the sides in the correct order.

OEM toner cartridges are reasonably priced and you can get 3rd party clones very cheaply. Please note that this model does not include FAX capability, I didn't need it, but many people assume it is included.

Updated -- I forgot to mention that the printer has very good Mac support, including the latest release Lion and great network printing support.

As the title suggests, I cannot believe there aren't more reviews for this printer, good or bad.

I've been drinking the HP coolaid for many many years now. I don't print much to be honest with you, but always thought that a color printer was something everybody should have in the home. I've owned about 4 HP multi-function printers over the years, and my last one was the worst in respect to ink. Not only were there 6 cartridges, but even printing in Black yielded a drop in the color inks! Due the infrequent usage of the printer, my inks would also "expire" so that I had to replace them. All this coupled with the fact that when I did buy new ink, most of the time the cartridges (which were small in the first place), only came half full!

OK, so you didn't come here to read about my issues with HP, although I think most people can empathize!

So, in looking for another printer, I looked for the following:

- Scanner
- Printer (Laser)
- Networked (Wireless or Hardwired)
- Reasonable Price (under $300)
- Not an HP!

What I got in the main, exceeded my expectations. Granted I only got this today, but from unpacking to printing the first page, was an absolute breeze. It's a lot smaller and lighter than I was expecting but quite a bit taller than my HP all-in-one.

I have multiple Windows machines (no Mac or Linux to test with right now) on my network, and each one picked up the printer during driver install first time. I downloaded the drivers directly from Brother so I had the latest ones, and I also ensured that after everything was running, I updated the firmware of the printer too. All this was done with ease.

The print quality is as you would expect from a laser printer, very clean and sharp. I especially like the duplex feature which allows printing on both sides. I even tried the multiple pages on one (4 to 1 in this instance with duplex), and it downsized the PDF file whilst keeping it still pretty readable. The warm up from sleep to print was pretty quick. I would say less than 10 seconds.

The build quality is pretty good. It's not as solid as an Enterprise type laser printer, but what do you expect for $179!? I was a little worried about the scan cover only lifting 45 degrees (as mentioned in the first review), but it lifts way more than that (probably about 65 degrees), plus it has a vertical lift on the hinges so you can scan thick books etc. which is nice. I do agree with the other review, the spring loaded lid is brutal, so you need to be careful when lifting the lid, otherwise you could damage the hinges.

However, with that said, the scanning feature is not quite as nice as the HP one. I need to play with it a bit more, but there doesn't appear to be a preview feature, and if you scan multiple pictures it doesn't allow you create multiple files (because there is no preview feature).

All-in-all though, with the fact that you get a starter cartridge that will last quite a while (with no expiry!), this printer is an absolute bargain for $170. Given I would have had to replace my HP cartridges anyway, which would have been $70, you can understand why this is, in the long run, a very cost effective printer. With high yield toner cartridges that print about 2500 pages for $50, I can't see me ever going back to an Inkjet.

In conclusion, don't be put off by the Brother brand and their relative obscurity compared to HP, they've been around for a long time.

I'm dinging the product 1 star because of the lack of preview and multi-image in the scanning software, and the spring loaded lid. I'm hoping there is an alternative/remedy to this. But for that, it would be five stars.

Pros
- Great printer, especially with duplex, and n to 1 printing
- Fast print speed and nice quality
- Scan and copy multiple documents using the auto feeder
- Long lasting, non expiring toner cartridge (700 pages from the free one!)
- Enclosed paper tray with pretty good capacity (250 sheets)
- No large output tray sitting on the side of printer, output is almost enclosed in the middle of the printer
- Not an HP! :)

Cons
- Scanner software doesn't have preview or the ability produce multiple images at once (that I can tell)
- Brutal spring loaded scan cover
- Not color (but wasn't a requirement for me anyway)
- No wireless (again not a big deal, but might be for some)

UPDATE (08/07/2011): I've found the preview feature! As I'm a bit of a computer geek, I generally switch software to "Advanced Mode" to gain more control over it. I've had this printer for a whole 10 hours, and only printed about 5-6 pages so far, but it's awesome! Setup on my Mac was a breeze. Hooked the printer up to the network and immediately got an IP with DHCP. I then attempted to use the standard PCL driver with a standard JetDirect port on my Mac running OSx 10.6.. but don't do this.. it seems that printing a single page will cause the printer to just print a blank page... and then another one.. and then..won't stop :P. Ohwell.. After loading the proper drivers, Mac nicely finds the printer over bonjour and automagically sets it up as a printer and scanner (whoo hoo).

The Ups:
- Fast printing -- From deep sleep to wake up it takes about 20 seconds to get the first page out (pretty darn decent for a printer under 200 bucks)
- Energy saving -- in deep sleep it consumes less than a watt
- Solid drivers/software that doesn't get in the way.. for mac at least (not sure about windows)
- Painless duplex printing
- Copying without the need of a computer
- Super light (25 lbs?) and small footprint
- Toner cartridges that don't cost an arm and a leg
- A button on the printer that stops the current print job (AND actually works.. unlike some lexmark and hp printers I've encountered which cancel jobs that HAVEN'T been started yet.. ugh.)

The Downs:
- Automatic document feeding can't scan double sided... but kind of expected, although.. you can tell it to scan a stack of (one-sided) documents and print double-sided documents
- The scanner lid seems to be spring-loaded, so be gentle when closing the flatbed scanner
- The scanner lid only opens 45 degrees not 90 degrees... maybe this is normal.. but my xerox copier goes all the way up.. ohwell)
-Getting this printer to work in Linux (ubuntu 11.04) was a little painful-- had to install the cups and lpr driver from the website.. but it's decently document on Brother's website, so check it out (hint: even though ubuntu "recommends" using the 7045 driver, dont.. use 7065dn.. using the 7045 will just send the printer data, and then the printer will just go back to sleep without printing anything).

So even with all the things that I don't like about the printer, I still highly recommend the printer, given the price and how many features brother packed into this model. I would totally recommend this printer to anyone in the need of b/w network printer.

EDIT: 7/31/2011--
The printer doesn't seem to have airprint support (yet), so those of you who want to print directly from you iphone/ipad/iwhatever.. sorry -- it won't work out of the box.. you'll probably need to setup a print server. I'll probably try doing this on a dd-wrt instance. Also, I tried using the Brother iPrint&Scan app on my iPhone, but it didn't work with this printer.. ohwell.

According to the handy-dandy printer statistics webpage built into the printer, I've printed 442 pages so far, and the printer is telling me that I'm running low on toner. I'm using the toner that came with the printer, (TN420) which is advertised to last about 1200 pages. I don't believe that I've printed any images or anything that requires a ton of toner, so I'm a bit confused on why I'm low on toner. Still-- Printer/scanner is great.. maybe just a defective toner unit that got shipped with the printer?

I found this "toner save" option in the web interface, so I enabled it. (Oops-- forgot about that. Printed out a page and in my opinion, it looks the same as when the "toner save" option was disabled. Hopefully I'll get better performance out of toner cartridges now.

Only had this printer for about three weeks but I like it so far. Warm up is quick, about 15 seconds from cold start to the first printed copy. Have it installed as a network printer so I can print wirelessly from my notebook through my router. I like the fact that Brother has one of the less expensive toner cartridges on the market. I would recommed this multi-function printer to anyone in a home enviroment (where I use it) to a small office. We have several Brother printers similar to this one at work and use them mostly for fax and some light copying.

The field of monochrome all-in-one AIO laser printers lags behind the more ubiquitous inkjet AIO units. I needed an economical solution for scanning and printing documents. It didnt' make sen$e to keep buying expensive ink replacements from the inkjet printer. I settled on the Brother MFC-7360N. The unit is somewhat noisy when using ADF (auto doc feeder) and acceptable when printing. Construction is plasticy but so are most printers these days.

Some other drawbacks:
- Cannot change the default directory where images are stored on your computer
- Takes about 30-min to install the drivers & sw on one computer. sooooo slowwwww
- The little display window is hard to read even at its highest contrast setting! Wow, bizarre.
- M-F (no weekend) customer support

The printer is acceptable and not too expensive. The software for Mac is quite full-featured but not robust. UI is a weak point. I learned to workaround its quirkiness. The printer is great if you just want an efficient machine at a modest price. Once you get used to the software, it will allow to be quite productive. Scan multi-page docs to create single-file PDF (had problems scanning 6 pages, insufficient RAM??) but no problem combining scanned pages later to gen PDF.

Small footprint, well integrated Ethernet access, large paper storage space, inexpensive (compared to HP) toner, and a document feeder, all at a very low price. In my past experience with Brother printers and fax machines they are extremely reliable and easy to setup and that is why I chose to go with a Brother. With a infrequently used copier the inkjet versions will clog and as the ink dries out in the print heads and they are a lot slower and in the long run a lot more expensive with the cost of consumables.

Setup was fast and easy and the Nuance scanner software is great and an improvement over that provided with older models from Brother and the software from HP which is so bloated that it often fails to even install properly.

Nice feature is the ability to register a PC by name when installing the software. Then when scanning a document you can select the destination computer from the Brother and push the scan to the desired PC. Very easy and very slick implementation and it works!

Nuance software also provides for scanning to the customary TIFF or JPEG formats but by default will scan and output a PDF file which is a real timesaver for scanning a document to email to someone. I would pay for the free Nuance software for this feature alone.

Printing to the Brother MFC7360N wakes it out of sleep mode (actuall "deep sleep") and outputs a page in seconds. It is roughly four times as fast as my HP 4000TN printer to output the first page. The Brother does suck up a lot of power when it comes out of sleep mode and the alarm goes off on the UPS that is on the same circuit. I suspect it probably should be on its own circuit or a 20amp circuit to avoid any problems with other devices.

Scanning is very fast and with standard large images works as expected. With text pages though the borders have a shadow pattern on the page on both sides that is generated within the machine. For OCR or most images this is not going to be a problem but not great for making scans of text pages for electronic archival purposes. This problem only affects scans and does not happen when making a copy of the same printed page so it may be a problem with the Nuance software.

It also is extremely noisy with a loud hum and loud fan noise when it is first turned on or after a page is printed. It goes into standard and then sleep and then deep sleep mode and the fan does not shut off until it reaches "deep sleep". The MFC really needs to be in a separate room with a door you can close. Turning the unit on and not even printing or scanning it goes into standard mode and I timed how long it took for the fan to shut off. It takes a full 11 minutes before the machine goes into deep sleep mode and its very loud fan shuts off. Has to be a defect in the design as the cooling fan cycles even when the MFC7360N is first turned on and nothing has been printed. This could be fixed with a firmware upgrade but apparently Brother has not bothered to produce one.

I paid $179.97 for this printer on August 24, 2011 and a week later it is priced at $114.99 which, if you can put it in a separate room, makes this a good value with the low cost of the Brother consumables.

The noise is loud and atypical of laser printers. Most recently I bought a Canon 4570dn all in one and after it prints a page it shuts down immediately and it is completely silent. The 11 minutes of fan noise from the majority of Brother laserjet printers is a fairly recent defect as I have had other laserjet printers from Brother that did not exhibit this behavior and were extremely reliable.

I've owned a few CB radios in my time and this one by far is the best. I really like the features and the fact the radio can assist with tuning of the antenna which if not correctly tuned affects the transmission and reception of the radio and can cause permanent damage to a CB radio. The display with its choice of colors is also quite nice and so easy to see.

Directly after installing I found my antenna needed a tweak and once tunned my reception was fantastic and people told me how clear my transmissions were. I also like the NOAA weather channels and the fact the radio will sound an alert if there is a severe weather warning. I also connected a PA horn and tried that feature which allows for a very loud broadcast with a simple press of the PA button.

this cb is awesome. lets you be creative and lets you have your own settings. easy to calibrate. love the weather scanner. cobra has done an excellent job even the mic is great and clear.

This Radio worked better than advertised!!! Our main purpose for buying this was to be alerted for severe weather during our crosscountry road trip durning the month of May. The biggest selling point was the fact the radio would turn on if a weather alert was transmitted in your area. The second day on the road we came out to the car after dinner to find the radio on and transmitting a weather alert. It saved us from heading directly into the upcoming storm. This was also very helpful to find out about traffic problems and we used it twice to alert fellow drivers of dangers in the road. I can not recommend this highly enough!!! I will always travel with this radio!!!

My needs are simple. I want a scanner with 11 x 17 capabilities to scan books, magazines, and other items for online auctions. From time to time, I also scan receipts, documents, newspaper clippings, etc. to convert to .pdf files for emailing or posting online. After researching the market for flat-bed scanners, I purchased the Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB scanner about four months ago. These days finding a flat-bed scanner (not intended for scanning photographs) is tough. Moreover, its nearest competitor with 11 x 17 capability (Microtek ScanMaker 9800XL) is about $1200!

I conneted the Mustek ScanExpress to my Dell Inspiron 9300 notebook (with Windows XP Professional) purchased in mid-2005. There were no compatibility or connectivity issues. I use UleadPhotoExpress (from the installation CD) to scan images onto my hard-drive. Then, I edit the images with JASC Paint Shop Pro_8. To date, I have been pleased with the quality of the scanned images and the ease of use of this Mustek scanner.
